Some dozen Muslim and other religious leaders are boycotting Mayor Bloomberg’s annual interfaith breakfast tomorrow, saying they’re outraged at reports the NYPD “has been monitoring and profiling virtually every layer of NYC Muslim public life.”
Among them is Omar Mohammedi, who is a mayoral appointee to the city’s Human Rights Commission.
Mayoral aides said that about a dozen individuals who had been invited to the breakfast have pulled out, but that some two dozen other Muslim clerics were attending.
NYPD spokesman Paul Browne insisted that cops didn’t engage in wholesale spying against Muslims.
