‘Beavis and Butt-Head’ revival a ratings hit

“Beavis and Butt-Head” returned to MTV after 13 years with an audience of 3.3 million total viewers, the cable network announced Friday.

Not surprisingly, the animated series, that aired at 10 pm ET Thursday, “performed incredibly well with males, who comprised over two-thirds of the audience,” an MTV statement said.

The cable show still has a ways to go though in terms of total viewers. MTV’s “Jersey Shore” nabbed over 8.78 million viewers at the same time slot for its season four debut in August.

The sarcastic comedy starring the delinquent duo tackled all the latest pop culture phenomena including “Jersey Shore,” “16 And Pregnant” as well as ABC’s “The Bachelor.”

The show, known for its snarky sense of humor, first launched in 1993 but ended in November 1997.

The revival still features the dense teenagers, who have failed to age or mature over the 13 years since they last appeared on TV.

“They’re the same boneheads sitting on the same couch, commenting on things through a really simple prism,” MTV president Van Toffler told Rolling Stone in the magazine’s March issue.
