Car cell-ing to cost points

Starting tomorrow, if you get caught yakking behind the wheel of your car without a hands-free device, you’ll get slapped with more than just a hefty fine — it also will cost you two points on your license.

“Distracted driving is one of the most serious dangers on our roadways today,” said David Sampson, executive deputy commissioner of the state Department of Motor Vehicles.

“Our hope is that motorists will become even more aware of the potential consequences of their actions if they use a cellphone while driving.”
