Brutal beating death of Bronx man shocks neighborhood

A Bronx man is dead after a brutal assault earlier today in front of his home, authorities and neighbors said.

Quentin Guerrero, 61, was set upon at 1:30 a.m. in front of 480 East 138th St. by ex-con Kendall Major, 35 and girlfriend Tosheba Alford, 20, who left him to die on the Mott Haven sidewalk, according to sources.

“I heard a loud thump, like someone hitting the floor and that’s when I looked out and saw someone unconscious on the ground,” said Oscar Porrata, 58, who lives in same building as Guerrero.

Guerrero was rushed to Lincoln Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Major and Alford were taking a cab to go visit Major’s brother when they started fighting and hopped out near Guerrero’s block, sources said.

Guerrero went outside and struck up a conversation with Alford, but things soon turned sour and she and Major began beating and stomping the man, sources added.

Their cab driver witnessed the attack and gave responding officers a description of the duo, who were quickly nabbed, witnesses said.

They are each charged with murder, said a source.

Major’s lengthy criminal record boasts 26 prior arrests dating back to 1990, including multiple busts for robbery, marijuana possession and assault, sources said.

He also did two stints in jail for robbery, attempted robbery and grand larceny, records show.

Alford has four prior arrests, including robbery and gang assault, sources added.

Guerrero’s death shocked the tight-knit community, where he was well-regarded.

“I feel saddened, everyone in the neighborhood knew him,” said David Soto, 33, who added that Guerrero was a retired technician for Verizon.

“If something were to happen, he would jump in. He would get involved. He was one of those upstanding guys.”

Other residents said they live in fear of gang members from the nearby Mitchel and Mill Brook housing projects who prowl the streets looking for easy targets to rob.
