Sergio wants face-to-face with Tiger at U.S. Open

Sergio Garcia yesterday said he will meet with Tiger Woods before the June 13 start of the U.S. Open at Merion to apologize in person for his offensive “fried chicken’’ comment.

“I’ve talked with Tiger’s manager and asked him if he wanted us to call Tiger,” said Garcia at the BMW PGA Championship outside London.

“Obviously, if he gives us the number or wait for Merion and do it there face to face,’’ Garcia said. “But they said they would rather do it there. So, you know, there’s nothing else we can do, so we’ll wait until we get there and we’ll talk.’’

Garcia finished in a tie for 19th, five shots behind the winner, 20-year-old Matteo Manassero of Italy.

“It’s been a long week and, well, I wasn’t really on my best game today,’’ Garcia said. “And there have been a lot of emotions going on, and today I kind of felt it a little bit.”
