Apple teases rabid fans clamoring for new iPhone, watch

Apple wishes it could say more — and so do gadget lovers.
The notoriously tight-lipped tech giant confirmed on Thursday it is holding a Sept. 9 event — that most believe will be used to unveil the iPhone 6.
The invite for the event came with just a cryptic line: “Wish we could say more.”
The date comes as no surprise to the Apple faithful who have been speculating for months about the possibility of two new iPhones, including a 5.5-inch “phablet.”

Industry watchers also expect Apple to launch a wearable product this year, most likely a long-rumored smartwatch that will be paired with the company’s health tracking technology.
Apple’s last iPhone update, the 5C and 5S, rolled out last September.
If, indeed, Apple announces an iPhone update at the event, it had better be good. Investors have grown antsy in recent years waiting for Apple to come out with its next new innovation.
The last new product was the iPad in 2010.
Meanwhile, other companies have been rolling out a slew of smartwatches for fitness and communications. Samsung, for example, just unleashed the Gear 6, a watch that will allow wearers to make and receive calls and connect to their calendars and applications when away from their phones.
Recent questions over Apple’s ability to innovate without founder Steve Jobs prompted Apple executive Eddy Cue in May to state that Apple is working on the “best product pipeline” he has seen in 25 years with the company.
“I believe certain products we’ve got coming out are great,” he said in an attempt to reassure investors and consumers.
