Weird But True

Man has moth removed from ear where it buzzed for 3 days

A 43-year-old man accidentally pushed a moth into his ear where it buzzed for three days, driving him crazy.

Rob Fielding, from the town of Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire, England, was reading in bed when the moth landed on his glasses. Instead of swatting it away, he accidentally pushed it into his ear canal, The Mirror reported.

“When I felt it move, it made me jump out of my skin,” Fielding said.

“It was awful knowing the moth was flying around inside my head.”

He managed to withstand the buzzing of the moth from within his ear for three days until his wife convinced him to go to hospital.

“The nurses were all very shocked when I told them what had happened,” he said.

“One of them used a light to look into my ear and all they could see was a leg wiggling around.”

It reportedly took doctors 90 minutes to remove the insect.

“After shoving a funnel in, they managed to widen the passage and get the moth out with a tiny pair of forceps,” Fielding said. “It felt like I’d just come off a plane and my ears popped.”

The moth did not survive the doctor’s intervention but, much to the delight of Fielding’s three children, it is on display in a jar in their house as a souvenir and conversation starter.

“Luckily, the kids find it absolutely hilarious and are obsessed with showing everyone our new pet,” he said.
