It’s a pitch-off!
Thirteen-year-old sensation Mo’ne Davis, riding high after pitching a complete-game shutout to send her Philadelphia team to the Little League World Series, challenged Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw to a “pitch-off.”
The consensus best pitcher on the planet — Kershaw is 14-2 with a 1.78 ERA, en route to his second straight National League Cy Young Award — might be a little fuzzy on the rules of such a challenge, but he isn’t backing down.
“Hey Mo’ne, just wanted to say congratulations on making it Williamsport,” Kershaw said in a video posted by ESPN-w. “That’s awesome, such a cool thing for you to get to do. Such a fun opportunity, and I heard you’re ready for a pitch-off. I don’t know exactly what that means, but I’m prepared. I’m ready for whenever you can make it out to LA, just let me know.”
Davis, who will become the 17th female to play in the LLWS, has a fastball that climbs as high as 70 mph from the 46-foot Little League pitching distance, with a wipeout curveball.
Davis’ Taney Dragons kick off their Little League World Series campaign on Friday against the Southeast region champs from Nashville.
