De Blasio ribbed by Colbert over looming LIRR strike

Comedian Stephen Colbert turned his conservative-satire shtick on Mayor de Blasio Wednesday night, calling him “America’s Leading Leftist” and “Pontius Pilate” for washing his hands over the looming Long Island Rail Road strike by planning an Italian vacation.

When de Blasio explained that the LIRR is under the governor’s jurisdiction, Colbert went faux-ballistic.

“Not my problem! Not my problem!” the host teased.

“Bring me the bowl that Pontius Pilate may wash his hands!” Colbert goofed.

Still, the mayor seemed to be bending to the widespread criticism that his 10-day tour of Rome and Venice — planned for in the midst of what could be transit paralysis — has earned him.

“Well, we’ll see,” de Blasio said, hinting that his travel plans may not be set in stone.

“If you are over there and the strike actually comes and people can’t get out of town, can we just crash at Gracie Mansion?” Colbert also joked, to which the mayor responded, “Talk to my wife.”
