Attacker rams Israeli bus with excavator

An Arab worker driving an excavator fatally ran down a pedestrian, then rammed the huge construction vehicle into a bus, in one of two terrorist attacks in Jerusalem Monday, hours before Israel and Hamas agreed to another cease-fire.

Israel’s Channel 10 showed cellphone video of the yellow excavator slamming its massive shovel into the bus at about 1 p.m.

A police officer opened fire and killed the attacker as the bus lay on its side.

The 29-year-old Israeli victim was an inspector whose job was to make sure that ancient graves were not damaged by construction work.

About three hours later, a soldier was shot in the stomach by a motorcycle-riding terrorist near a tunnel in Jerusalem.

Police were hunting for the gunman.

Meanwhile, the Israeli security service Shin Bet said a senior Islamic Jihad commander was killed and another injured in an airstrike in the Shati refugee camp in Gaza, The Times of Israel reported.

The violence came even as the overall fighting slowed, with Israel saying it had demolished the last of Hamas’ tunnels and a Palestinian delegation meeting in Egypt to negotiate a cease-fire, set to begin Tuesday morning.

Israeli soldiers will remain in the Gaza Strip during the 72-hour truce, set to begin at 8 a.m.

Egypt told the delegation that Hamas must agree to the three-day truce without conditions.

Nearly 1,900 Palestinians have been killed in the 28 days of fighting, while 64 Israeli soldiers and three civilians in Israel have died.
