Where does Michael Strahan rank among Giants greats?

Michael Strahan will take his place in Canton at the Pro Football Hall of Fame this Saturday. But what about his place in the pantheon of all-time Giants?

Football columnist Steve Serby and Giants beat writer Paul Schwartz provide their rankings of the top 10 players in Big Blue history:

Steve Serby’s Top 10 Giants

1. Lawrence Taylor — Superman wore 56.

2. Emlen Tunnell — Beloved interception machine at safety and dangerous return man who became first African-American enshrined in Pro Football Hall of Fame.

3. Rosey Brown — A 10-time Pro Bowler at left tackle.

4. Mel Hein — Smart, tough, durable 15-year center who also played linebacker. The tape doesn’t lie.

5. Harry Carson — Intimidating heart-and-soul captain of Bill Parcells Giants.

6. Michael Strahan — Franchise sack champion, complete defensive end and peerless leader.

7. Sam Huff — Violent middle linebacker who once knocked out Jim Brown and bloodied Jim Taylor.

8. Frank Gifford — Golden Boy Pro Bowler at running back, wide receiver and defensive back.

9. Andy Robustelli — At 230 pounds, the Rocky Marciano of heavyweight pass rushers and seven-time All-Pro.

10. Eli Manning — Two-time Super Bowl MVP.

Paul Schwartz’s Top 10 Giants

1. Lawrence Taylor — Changed the way the game was played, game-plans designed specifically to try to contain him. How many players can say that?

2. Rosey Brown — Anchor offensive tackle for 13 years. Possessed too much speed, size and power for overmatched defenders.

3. Mel Hein — Durable center (never missed a game in 15 years) was the league’s MVP in 1938. Wellington Mara loved him. Enough said.

4. Sam Huff — Fierce middle linebacker, his confrontations with Jim Brown were the stuff of legend. So nice off the field, so violent on it.

5. Frank Gifford — Glamor boy first-round pick out of USC wasn’t just another pretty face. Could run it, catch it (and even throw it) with the best of ’em.

6. Emlen Tunnell — Giants’ first African-American player. Set team record with 74 interceptions and played in nine Pro Bowls.

7. Michael Strahan — Holder of Giants sack record (141.5) was one of the finest two-way defensive ends of his generation.

8. Andy Robustelli —  Defensive stalwart who knew his way around winning. Played in eight NFL championship games, missed one game in 14-year career.

9. Eli Manning — Only quarterback in Giants history to win two Super Bowls, and he was named MVP in both.

10. Harry Carson — Prototype run-stopping inside linebacker who simply could not be moved and almost never missed a tackle. Tough as nails.
