Madoff victims furious over son’s $16M fortune

Ponzi spawn Andrew Madoff was worth a whopping $16 million, his newly filed will reveals — a small fortune that has dad Bernie Madoff’s victims furious.

Andrew, who died of lymphoma Sept. 4, was never charged but worked side by side with his father and has been dubbed a co-conspirator by the feds.

“Sixteen million? And all these people were out of their money?” said outraged victim Judith Welling, 77.

Victims were shocked when told by The Post of the will’s contents.

The extent of Andrew’s fortune had been unknown even to prosecutors until the will was filed Thursday in Manhattan Surrogate Court.

“I would say there are going to be a lot of very angry people,” predicted Welling, a retired Manhattan publishing exec who lost millions of dollars that she and her husband had been saving for their children.

“It’s not fair — it’s not fair at all,” said victim Angelo Viola, 85, of Staten Island, when told of the amount.

Andrew split his fortune among his two daughters, his first wife and his fiancée. But the victims may yet get their cut.

At the time of his death, Andrew had been fighting an effort by the victims to recover a total of $153.3 million from Andrew and from the estate and widow of his brother, Mark, who hanged himself in 2010.

The victims’ trustee, Irving Picard, has contended in court papers that both Andrew and Mark aided in and profited from their father’s criminal enterprise, although neither brother was prosecuted.

Andrew gave his two college-age daughters, Anne and Emily, equal shares of all his tangible personal property.

He left their mother and his first wife, Deborah West, who filed for divorce the day Bernie was arrested, a third of his total estate, or just over $5 million.

Fiancée Catherine Hooper gets $50,000 a month until his estate is completed. At that point, she’ll get the rest of his money after shares have been paid out to his daughters and first wife, the will says.

Andrew signed the 18-page final will in July, just two months before he succumbed to a cancer relapse at age 48.
