Could David Robertson being closing elsewhere next season?

David Robertson, who is set to become a free agent after the season, said he still hasn’t had any discussions with the team about a new contract and that he is “absolutely” interested in testing the market in the offseason.

Sunday was not great for Robertson, who took the loss in the Yankees 5-4 defeat to Toronto after allowing two hits and a run in the ninth inning of a tie game, but it was a rare hiccup in what has been a breakout season in his first year as closer.

“Obviously, the Yankees haven’t talked to me, so it looks like I’ll be going to free agency,” Robertson said before the game. “We’ll wait and see what happens.”

With Sunday’s loss, Robertson fell to 1-3, but he has blown just two saves in 28 chances since taking over for Mariano Rivera.

“I would like to stay here,” Robertson said. “I’ve enjoyed playing here. I like the atmosphere and the fans, but I don’t know what’s gonna happen.”

And he insisted he’s not spending much time dwelling on it.

“At the end of last year, I thought about my future,” Robertson said. “They locked Brett [Gardner] up [with an extension], but never brought anything up to me, which I understand because Brett’s been a solid player for years and I hadn’t become the closer.”

Now, however, he has and he is interested in finding out how much he will be worth on the open market.

“Absolutely,” Robertson said. “That’s the best answer I can give you.”
