Golf ball-size hailstones pummel beach bathers

Vacationers thought they were going to die during a terrifying summer hailstorm that struck unsuspecting beachgoers.

Swimmers raced out of the Ob River in Siberia and shielded themselves with umbrellas and inflatable mattresses as the severe storm hit.

Dramatic footage shows dozens of people suddenly fleeing in terror, with one woman shouting: “If we die, I love you.”

Temperatures had been as high as 99 degrees Fahrenheit before the afternoon storm arrived, bringing damaging winds and golf ball-size hail.

Children can be heard crying in the clip as they sheltered under trees as the drama unfolded.

The river beach is close to Novosibirsk, Siberia’s largest city, and is popular with locals.

Hailstorms of this intensity are rare in Siberia in summer because of the normally milder temperatures.

Nobody was seriously injured.
