Cuomo begins 2-day trip to Israel, pledges support

ALBANY — Gov. Cuomo and state leaders have landed in Israel to begin their two-day quest to show their solidarity with the country.

Cuomo, who was joined by leaders of the state Legislature, including Senators Dean Skelos and Jeff Klein and Assembly Leader Sheldon Silver, took off from JFK International Airport on Tuesday evening.

“It is important to make our commitment to Israel clear and it is important to make that commitment now,” Cuomo said before boarding his plane.

The trip, paid for by each of the elected leaders’ campaign accounts, is a short one, expecting to last about 30 hours. The group has a tentative meeting scheduled with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

On Tuesday Cuomo received an invitation from Palestinian leaders to visit parts of their land, including East Jerusalem, embroiled in the conflict with Israel, however the Governor has turned down the invite.
