The Cowboys cleared the way for a Ryan brothers reunion last night, but don’t count on it happening.
Dallas fired defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, the twin brother of Jets coach Rex, The Post has learned. Though Mike Pettine is out as defensive coordinator, the Jets are going to move ahead with their plan to promote defensive backs coach Dennis Thurman to defensive coordinator.
Rob Ryan had been with the Cowboys for two seasons. The Cowboys finished 14th in yards allowed in both years.
While the thought of a Ryan brother tandem is highly entertaining, the Jets have been planning on promoting Thurman since it became apparent they would part ways with Pettine. Thurman has not been officially announced as Pettine’s replacement, but Rex Ryan would not go back on his word to one of his most loyal assistants.
