Should I complain about my crushing workload?

My department is going through enormous changes in structure and people. I like where we are headed and I’ve been told I am part of the future, but the workload can be crushing at times. Should I complain about the amount of work for relief, or just grin and bear it until things settle down?

You forgot another option — asking, “Please sir, can I have some more?” If you like your job and where your department and career are headed — and you are fortunate to be “in” and part of the future — then what is there to complain about? Instead of complaining about the crushing workload, you should be crushing the work! Now, if the workload and resources are such that achieving the boss’ objectives are in jeopardy, then you have an obligation to point that out and suggest solutions. But no whining or complaining — that’s a fast track to being part of the problem and not the solution.
