7 painful upcoming sequel titles

With the age of never-ending sequels upon us, studios seem to be scrambling to come up with titles.

In efforts to stand out, many have rejected the tried and true formula of tacking a number on the end (i.e. “How to Train Your Dragon 2”) in favor of aggravating wordplay or nonsensical wordiness.

In honor of this Friday’s “Think Like a Man” sequel, here are the worst upcoming offenders.

‘Think Like a Man Too’ (June 20)

It’s unclear what we are thinking like a man in addition to, since the first one was about thinking like a man, as well. Maybe it should’ve been called “Think Like a Woman Too.”

‘Dumb and Dumber To’ (November 14)

Adding insult to injury, we get a second movie in the same year with another misuse of a homonym, albeit one that clearly serves a purpose.

They’re dumb, get it?!

‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ (July 11)

How many times can you shove “of the” into one title? Are we a few years away from “Return of the Resurrection of the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”?

‘Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice’ (May 6, 2016)

In other words, we’ve added the word “Justice” to the title to clearly indicate that the entire existence of this movie is to prepare for a “Justice League” movie so we can try to match “The Avengers’” box office.

Avengers: Age of Ultron’ (May 1, 2015)

“The Avengers” will return next year, with a mouthful title and all.Marvel

What is an Ultron? And why does finding out how old it is warrant an entire movie?

‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1’ (November 21)

For a nice, accessible title, add in as many punctuation symbols as possible. Hey, it worked for “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn (This Is The Last One) — Part 2 [The Climactic Finale!].”

‘Step Up: All In’ (July 25)

“Step Up: Still No Channing Tatum” didn’t have quite as good a ring, we suppose.
