Boy saved by ‘guardian angels’ after driving toy ATV on highway

A 6-year-old boy drove his battery-operated toy ATV onto a highway in Westchester on Sunday, and was saved by “guardian angels” on wheels.

The child was riding his mini ATV in a Mount Vernon park when he scooted away from his grandmother and right out of the entrance around 7 p.m., according to Westchester County police.

The youngster, who police said is autistic, then drove onto an entrance ramp at Oak Street and began pulling his toy onto the Bronx River Parkway.

Quick-thinking motorists used their cars to shield the youngster from other vehicles, and one man jumped out and took him to safety until cops arrived.

“He definitely had some guardian angels out there,” said police spokesman Kieran O’Leary.

“It could have been a tragedy — but it had a happy ending.”
