‘Dancing With the Stars’ siblings talk Mormon upbringing

Derek and Julianne Hough are flyin’ high — sharing the story of their unusual upbringing in the new issue of People magazine.

The dancing sibs (he’s 29, she’s 25), who’ve both won the cheesy disco-ball trophy on “Dancing With the Stars,” talk about being raised as Mormons in Utah — and being sent to a prestigious yet rigorous dance school in London when Derek was 13 and Julianne only 10 (their parents were in the midst of getting a divorce).

“When I look back, I think it’s so sad I have no pictures of me with a cute, bare, 10-year-old face,” says Julianne, who returned home to Utah after a year in London — but found the transition difficult.

“It was a very mature world we lived in in London,” she says. “When I came home and went to high school, I didn’t know how to relate.”

Julianne then returned to London, and to dance school (Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts), where she and Derek met future “DWtS” hoofer Mark Ballas.

“It was hard,” says Derek. “There were moments I just wanted to go and have fun.”
