Here’s your first look at the blockbuster ‘Mad Max’ reboot

Thirty years after Mad Max last hit the big screen, the cult favorite returns with “Mad Max: Fury Road.”

Tom Hardy, best known as the villainous Bane in “The Dark Knight Rises,” leads the reboot, playing the role once played by Mel Gibson when he was still a spring chicken. Hardy’s joined in the first trailer by Charlize Theron, who’s working a seriously fierce buzz cut.

The original “Mad Max” opened in 1979 before giving birth to two sequels in the ’80s, the latter of which memorably featured Tina Turner as Aunty Entity. Director George Miller helmed all three, and he returns to bring his chase sequences and dusty drama into the 21st century.

“Mad Max: Fury Road” opens in theaters May 15, 2015.
