Cuomo gets $6M from LLCs, despite promise to close loopholes

ALBANY — Despite a promise to close what he himself called “loopholes” in the campaign-finance law, Gov. Cuomo has brought in $6.2 million for his re-election from limited liability companies allowed to donate up to $60,800 a pop.

Corporations can only give $5,000 — and there’s no limit to the number of LLCs an individual can control.

The flood of LLC money helped the governor amass an eye-popping campaign war chest of $33 million.

“Clearly this is a pretty big loophole,” said Bill Mahoney of the good government group NYPIRG.

Cuomo spokesman Matt Wing said: “The Cuomo campaign is following existing campaign-finance laws, while the governor is leading the charge to reform them, including closing the loophole for LLCs.”
