‘Meth lab’ scare in gated community in Croton-on-Hudson

Three townhouses in a gated community on the Hudson reportedly were evacuated Saturday after firefighters responding to a small basement blaze discovered what may be explosive materials.

Police in Croton-On-Hudson refused to comment, but News 12/Westchester quoted residents of the Half Moon Bay complex saying they’d heard that hazardous materials were found and that they may have been intended for use in a meth lab on the property.

The evacuees were ordered to leave their homes at about 10 a.m. and were not allowed back in as of early Sunday morning.

Hazmat units were on the scene.

One neighbor told the station that a “small’’ family lived in the basement apartment where the fire broke out.

“They evacuated three buildings [and residents are] not getting back in tonight,’’ another neighbor said.

Townhouses in the complex are listed for up to $750,000.
