Sister of girl killed in hit-and-run is in a coma

The younger sister of a girl who was killed by a pill-popping criminal in a stolen SUV is in a coma, a family member said Thursday.

Charlie Sellers, 9, has no clue that her beloved sister, Joey, 12, is dead after junkie Robert DeCarlo, 26, plowed into them and their mother Wednesday night while speeding in a stolen van through Mill Basin.

“Charlie is in a coma,” said the girls’ grand aunt Elsie Chery, 52, when asked whether the 9-year-old knew her sister was killed in the crash.

Joey was an “excellent student” who aced her classes last school year, said Chery. The little girl, who starred in a play at Brooklyn College two weeks ago, also loved her dog Sasha.

“She was a pre-teen who was very involved and did what all little kids do,” said Chery. “She loved to dance, she did ballet.”

The heartbroken aunt said the two sisters were inseparable and “extremely close.”

“Last Saturday they went to get their hair done (and) they love getting their nails done. They are good children,” said Chery.

She wouldn’t discuss mom Marcia Landis’ injuries, but said “every day is an improvement and we thank god for that.”

DeCarlo, 26, allegedly slammed into Landis and the two girls, who were walking on Flatlands Avenue, after he lost control while taking a hard right turn onto Schenectady Avenue in Mill Basin.

Charlie suffered a traumatic brain injury and underwent surgery Thursday at New York Presbyterian Children’s Hospital, according to a family member. Landis, who was critically injured, is recovering at Kings County Hospital.

DeCarlo, who was out on bail after previously mugging an elderly woman, is charged with manslaughter, assault and other charges.

“Sorry, sorry,” the drug addict muttered when asked what he would say to the tragic family.
