Alderson: Collins ‘not going anywhere’ as Mets manager

Terry Collins is in no jeopardy of being dismissed as Mets manager, Sandy Alderson told The Post.

“He’s not going anywhere,” Alderson said after watching early hitting Tuesday at Citi Field.

Alderson said there was disappointment in the Mets going 4-7 on a just-concluded road trip to fall a season-high seven games under .500 (28-35). However, Alderson said the narrative was different about the club and Collins just a week ago, when the trip began 4-1 in Philadelphia, and he does not want to overreact.

Ultimately, Alderson acknowledged problems in the structure of the roster – particularly inexperience in the late innings with the bullpen – and felt Collins’ responsibility was to keep the team playing hard, and the manager was doing that in Year 4 on the job.

“We are in every game on that trip,” Alderson said. “We made base-running mistakes. That is something that happens with young players on occasion. Our bullpen is extraordinarily young. But I felt this team came to play every game and that is Terry’s job, getting the team to come to play.”
