Atlantic artists rise on this ‘Fault’ line

Weepy teenagers hit the Apple iTunes store in droves this weekend after seeing the movie “The Fault in Our Stars.”

The soundtrack hit No. 1 on the iTunes chart Monday and is giving Warner Music Group’s Atlantic Records a chance to establish some fresh talent.

The 20th Century Fox movie about two young lovers who have cancer took in $48.2 million at the box office — finishing No. 1 and beating out Warner Brothers’ “Edge of Tomorrow” and Buena Vista’s “Maleficent.”

The “Fault” soundtrack debuted at No. 8 last week and its rapid rise is helping two overnight sensations — songbirds Charli XCX and Birdy — get a leg up on the charts.

“Fox was very receptive to Birdy and chose three songs on the album,” Atlantic Chairwoman Julie Greenwald told The Post.

Greenwald said the movie’s success is helping sell downloads.

It is such a culturally significant movie, they didn’t have to put brand-name artists on the soundtrack, she said of the strategy of relying on quality artists but not household names, which helped to spread the wealth from the big screen to downloads.

“Boom Clap,” by Charli XCX, was written for the movie and is the song heard on TV trailers. It is currently No. 6 on iTunes chart. The artist also sings the hook on “Fancy,” a recent chart topper by Iggy Azalea.

Birdy’s new album, “Fire Within,” which debuted last week, is No. 12 on iTunes. The singer is already well-known in the UK.

Atlantic is no stranger to soundtrack success. The label also was behind the music from Summit Entertainment’s “Twilight” franchise.

The movie is also expected to give Ed Sheeran’s latest album, “X,” a big promotional boost. To be released on June 23, it is already No. 32 on the iTunes chart based on pre-orders.

“He’s going to have a fantastic debut,” Greenwald said. “It’s a massive movie, and this is going to bring tons of girls to the table.”

The Billboard SoundScan album chart out Wednesday won’t include a full week of sales because the movie debuted over the weekend.
