Rangers Stanley Cup ticket prices already over $3K

Tickets to see the Rangers duke it out for the Stanley Cup at Madison Square Garden are the hottest in town — with prices soaring above this year’s Super Bowl.

Seats at a potential Game 6, which could be a historic home-game clincher for the Rangers, are going for an average of $3,262 on ticket resale site TiqIQ, making the series one of the most expensive in NHL history.

Compare that to this year’s Super Bowl tickets, which cost an average of $2,567.

A limited number of tickets have gone on sale to the general public, but the majority of the pricey Cup passes are being resold through secondary buyers, like ticket brokers and season-ticket holders.

Prices to NHL’s most coveted series are skyrocketing since the Blueshirts haven’t made it to the Stanley Cup final in 20 years. They’ll face either the Chicago Blackhawks or the LA Kings, who play Friday night.

The Rangers were propelled to the Stanley Cup final Thursday night after a 1-0 victory over the Montreal Canadiens.

The Rangers will skate at the Garden for Games 3 and 4 and will return to Manhattan only if a sixth game is necessary. At that point, fans can expect ticket prices to be through the roof.

“If they’re up 3-2 looking to win the cup at home, you’ll see the price probably [will be] $2,000 and up just to get in the door,” said Chris Matcovich, spokeperson for TiqIQ.

One diehard shrugged off the ballooning ticket prices as typical.

“People getting them for face value are selling them for quadruple the price, but it’s always been that way,” said 24-year-old Peter Eaves. “There are 20,000 seats, and if you’ve got the money, you get the seats.”

But John Peterson, who spent his 24th birthday at MSG watching the Rangers capture the Eastern title, said prices are getting out of hand. “You expect it, because of the Stanley Cup,” said Peterson. “But people get greedy, and then the average person can’t afford to be a fan.”

Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final is slated for June 4 in either Chicago or Los Angeles.
