Carmelo meets with Knicks brass, still likely to test the market

James Dolan is hoping for a Hollywood ending with Carmelo Anthony.

While Garden chief Dolan geared up for the Rangers’ Stanley Cup finals do-or-die Game 5 Friday at Staples Center, his other hot commodity, Anthony, met one last time in Los Angeles with Knicks president Phil Jackson, general manager Steve Mills and new coach Derek Fisher.

Dolan didn’t attend Friday’s meeting, focused only on hockey. But Jackson, Mills and Fisher were to present to Anthony their future 2015 cap plan and restate their desire for him to opt into his contract at the June 23 deadline.

Anthony, however, is still planning to opt out and become a free agent July 1 — particularly with the latest developments of Miami’s fold in the NBA Finals that could lead to the Big Three all opting out and reorganizing. Anthony has to make it official by June 23. He has been in Los Angeles working out with his personal trainer in recent days.

A report stated the Heat have had internal discussions about bringing in Anthony to make a Big Four, but Chris Bosh shot it down to the Miami Herald, calling it “very, very unlikely.’’

Fisher said at Tuesday’s press conference he figured Anthony would test free agency now.

“He’s been pretty clear in at least expressing he may want the option to be a free agent, which many players have done in recent years,’’ Fisher said. “I don’t think it’s an indictment on the Knicks. He’s maybe never had the experience of being a free agent and he maybe just wants that.”

Thursday night, Anthony met with his agent, Leon Rose, in Beverly Hills to plan for the meeting and the Knicks’ contingent huddled separately.

When Anthony left the restaurant, he was asked by a TMZ Sports cameraman about the Miami rumors. Anthony said, “I ain’t hear about that one — that’s a new one.”

When asked if it were legitimate, he said, “Nothing is legit until a contract is signed, sealed and delivered.’’

The Rockets, Bulls, Mavericks and Lakers are interested parties. Only the Lakers are under the salary cap.

Jackson and Lakers president Jeanie Buss, his fiancée, are off to Turkey for Jackson’s son’s wedding after the Los Angeles meetings.
