7-Eleven gives Slurpees a hipster mustache, mason jars

Even the Slurpee is getting a ’stache.

7-Eleven is selling mustache drink straws and matching Mason jars to promote its iconic frozen beverage this summer.

The Dallas-based chain, which is poking fun at many a Williamsburg hipster, points out that mustaches are turning up in lot of places other than faces.

“It was only a matter of time,” the company said in a statement this month touting the novelty straws. “They’re seemingly everywhere — on party supplies, clothing, jewelry, candy, decals, at ’stache bashes, in party photo booths, even on cars and baby pacifiers.”

7-Eleven says staffers have named the four ’stashe styles: the British, the handlebar, the Hogan after wrestler Hulk Hogan, and the Swanson, as in Ron Swanson, a character on NBC’s “Parks and Recreation” series.

“I think it will be interesting to see which mustaches sell best,” said Laura Gordon, 7-Eleven’s vice president of brand innovation and marketing. “Of course, people can buy all four to match their Slurpee moods or if they want to slurp incognito.”

The convenience store also makes no secret of its desire to get people to send photos of themselves sporting a ‘stache straw on social media.

“I suspect we will see lots of Slurpee mustache photos on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter (@slurpee or @7eleven),” Gordon said.

It costs 99 cents for each straw. The first Slurpee comes free with the $2.99 purchase of the Mason jar mug and refills are discounted.
