Andy’s lieutenant gov. bowing out

ALBANY — Lt. Gov. Bob Duffy announced Wednesday night that will not seek re-election this year.

Duffy told a Rochester TV station he submitted a letter to Gov. Cuomo Wednesday about his decision. Duffy had hinted for several months he was leaning toward not seeking another term.

The former mayor of Rochester, Duffy headed the state’s Regional Economic Development Council.

Cuomo had downplayed speculation that Duffy would not rejoin him on the Democratic ticket. There is no clear favorite to replace Duffy. Cuomo will likely pick a running mate by May 21, when the state Democratic Party holds its convention.
