Hamptons gets ‘selfie machines’ in free beach shuttles

The Hamptons are about to get more “social,” but not “flashy,” with a fleet of cabs rigged with backseat photo booths.

The Free Ride, which provides gratis transport to the beach, is pimping out its 19 electric shuttles with iPad “selfie machines.”

“Everyone’s very selfie crazy right now,” said Alex Esposito, 27, an East Hampton native and Free Ride co-founder.

“We had a ton of people getting into cars and taking pictures of themselves with cellphones. We thought it might be fun to build [the machines].”

Esposito said the social-media self-portraits were tested in Palm Beach, Fla., before being installed in the Hamptons.

Passengers snap photos with the iPad mounted in the back seat. “There’s a quick spot check,” he said. “We try to make sure there’s nobody flashing the cameras.”
