Joyce Chang started her new job as editor-in-chief of Self on Thursday and wasted no time in shuffling the staff.
As had been widely expected, Suzanne D’Amato was lured from People StyleWatch, where she was executive editor, to be the new executive editor, replacing Isabel Burton.
Deputy Editor Meaghan Murphy had already announced her departure to become executive editor of Hearst-owned Good Housekeeping.
Chang had been the No. 2 editor at Cosmo when she was raided three weeks ago to take over Self.
Cosmo also revealed that they had hired her replacement, raiding the Wall Street Journal [owned by News Corp., which also owns The Post] for Leslie Yazel, deputy editor of the Personal Journal.
In an embarrassing e-mail gaffe, Condé Nast’s HR department last week thought it was e-mailing to Chang a confidential hit list of people to be fired at Self — and also a wish list of people to be hired from Hearst, Time and elsewhere.
But instead of sending the e-mail to Chang, the HR department sent it to a mid-level editor at Hearst’s O, the Oprah Magazine.
The e-mail quickly became the talk of the Hearst Tower, although the Condé Nast side seemed not to be aware of the memo until The Post started calling earlier this week.
