Uber for jets hits the market with JetSmarter

A young entrepreneur has launched JetSmarter, an app that is Uber for private jets. You can choose your jet at wholesale rates without having to use an aviation broker or operator. And as with the Uber app, you request and pay via your mobile phone.

Founder and CEO Sergey Petrossov, 25, says it’s the first online booking system for private jet charters, and gives access to the largest private jet marketplace in the world.

Most of his 25,000 app users are tech savvy fliers from the US and Middle East who book jets electronically.
Petrossov has a tech background and launched a live chat system, the first of its kind in Russia, in 2006, before he moved into private jets in 2009.

Petrossov expects 2014 revenues to be $25 million to $30 million. That’s based on current bookings of three to four flights a day, which is equivalent to $2.5 million to $3.5 million in revenue a month.

The US is currently the company’s largest market, with users in the New York metropolitan area, South Florida and California.
