The news that Michael Strahan will join top-rated “Good Morning America” as an intermittent member of its morning team (not as a co-host) makes a lot of sense, particularly since the “Live with Kelly and Michael” co-host is already employed by ABC (which syndicates “Live”).
Here are five reasons why Michael Strahan on “GMA” makes sense:
He adds some much-needed testosterone to ‘GMA’
Sam Champion left for the Weather Channel and Josh Elliott is off to NBC Sports, leaving George Stephanopoulos as the only male presence on the show. That will change once Strahan hops on board.
He’s goofy and willing to mix-it-up
He’s donned dresses on “Live” and has been a good sport with lifestyle segments — the kind of personality that lends itself to morning TV. He even starred in a short-lived Fox sitcom, “Brothers.”
He’s liked by viewers
Since replacing Regis Philbin opposite Kelly Ripa, Strahan has helped “Live” retain its status as morning TV’s top syndicated show.
He’s good at pulling double-duty
He’s already proven this, juggling his analyst job on “Fox NFL Sunday” while showing up every day for “Live.”
He knows what to expect with ‘GMA’
He’s already familiar with “GMA,” having subbed for Robin Roberts while she was on medical leave.
