Fashion designers the world over would give anything to put their name to the Duchess of Cambridge’s wardrobe.
It’s one of the industry’s ultimate jackpots: free, global exposure of their label on one of the world’s favorite royals.
Which makes the decision of one of Kate’s designers to remain anonymous even more mysterious.
The designer in question was behind the primrose yellow broderie anglaise dress Kate wore at Taronga Zoo over the Easter weekend. The dress features a short, flared sleeve and a boat neckline.
It’s a recycled dress which was first seen in 2012 during the Jubilee Tour when she wore it to the Solomon Islands.
But no-one knows who made it, only that it’s from an “independent British dressmaker.”
Another of the mystery designer’s works is a burgundy dress coat Kate wore at her first Christmas at Sandringham.
Kensington Palace has stayed mum on the topic, but fashion aficionados suspect the designer is Angela Kelly, the Queen’s personal assistant and senior dresser.
Kelly has designed many of the Queen’s outfits since 2002 and reports in February suggested the Queen had offered Kelly’s services to the Duchess for the tour.
In 2012, one source told Grazia magazine: “This dress was a piece commissioned by Kate. She likes to have a few pieces that are one-offs and that she has had some input in, so she asked the
Queen’s tailors for some help…They worked on it together after she went to them with ideas of color, fabric and style.”
