Barry Rohrssen is Calipari’s new recruiting ace

Barry Rohrssen, the former Manhattan College head coach and two-time Pittsburgh assistant, will be joining John Calipari’s staff at Kentucky, sources said.

Rohrssen, nicknamed “Slice,” is known for his recruiting ability, and now he will coach alongside as good a recruiter as there is in Calipari. He will take the open assistant position previously held by Orlando Antigua, who left to take over at South Florida. Pittsburgh announced Rohrssen’s departure on Monday.

“Everyone at Pitt wishes Barry the very best in his future pursuits,” Pittsburgh coach Jamie Dixon said in a statement.

Rohrssen, a slick-talking, 53-year-old Brooklyn native who attended St. Francis College, spent seven years as an assistant at Pittsburgh from 1999 to 2006 before running the Manhattan program for five seasons, compiling a 58-95 record. He returned to Pitt last year.
