Luxe Vietnamese Amanresorts a stunner

WHAT: Amanresorts’ stunning new Vietnamese luxe resort with 31 private pavilions and five villas — many of which come with their own pools and breathtaking vistas.

WHEN: Open year round and with the best climate in Vietnam (250 days of sunshine, with temps averaging 72–95 degrees), Amanoi offers a stunning hotel pool cut into a clifftop and an ultra-luxe beach club serving up American burgers or Vietnamese bun cha.

WHY: Sumptuous exclusivity. Each Amanoi pavilion is its own stylish oasis — with two staff members to every guest and soothing soundtrack of birdsong and the lapping waves. If you’re feeling active, you can sea-kayak, sail, dive, trek and play tennis — all before sitting down to watch thousands of fishing boats light up the night-time bay like fireflies.

NEEDS WORK: Amanoi opened in September and a new road to the resort is still being completed. Until then, the 90-minute drive from the airport is bumpy and slow. Also, while bonus nibbles at the resort are plentiful and delightful (complimentary bedside nuts and cookies; daily fruit), a continental breakfast is not included in the price.

MUST TRY: A bar that eschews stools for leather armchairs — the perfect spot for a cocktail at the end of a hard day lounging in the sun.

DON’T MISS: The luxe spa and its 90-minute Vietnamese massage, where toxins are released via the ancient technique of cupping. The treatment begins with a heavenly footbath and closes with a pot of tea.

COMPETITIVE EDGE: A jaw-dropping setting and super-indulgent, peaceful amenities.
