Deputy mayor addresses execs about growing NYC’s tech industry

Deputy Mayor Alicia Glen addressed tech executives Wednesday about growing the industry in the city — then admitted she uses a flip-phone, can’t figure out Instagram and joined Twitter only the day before.

“If my kids were here, they would be falling out of their chairs laughing right now because their mom is a proud user of a vintage flip-phone, but, thankfully, can’t figure out how to follow them on Instagram,” said Glen, who is responsible for housing and economic development.

Glen’s confession came before a crowd of hundreds attending an Association for a Better New York breakfast focused on the tech industry, which employs 291,000 and generates $5.6 billion in taxes.

“I cling to my old habits . . . That doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate a really good thing when I see it. The one thing I’m proud to say is that, as of yesterday, I’m actually finally on Twitter!” Glen added.

She also announced a new jobs czar, Katy Gaul-Stigge.

Mayor de Blasio made a surprise appearance, appearing tieless.

“I hear this is a really hip gathering where people don’t wear ties,” he quipped.
