The biggest blockbusters hitting theaters this summer

By Hollywood’s reckoning, summer begins in less than a month. Here are trailers for some of the season’s biggest movies.

‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ (May 2)

Andrew Garfield’s Spidey kicks off the season by tangling with Electro (Jamie Foxx), The Rhino (Paul Giamatti) and the Green Goblin (Dane DeHaan).

‘Godzilla’ (May 16)

He’s wreaking new havoc for his 50th anniversary, but can the big monster escape the fate of the mega-flop 1998 reboot — or last year’s “Pacific Rim’’?

‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ (May 23)

The original X-Men team up with their future selves in this time-traveling mashup.

‘Blended’ (May 23)

Can Adam Sandler arrest his recent box-office slump by teaming with his most congenial female co-star, Drew Barrymore, for a third time in this family comedy?

‘Maleficent’ (May 30)

Angelina Jolie takes villainous center stage in this revisionist version of “Sleeping Beauty,’’ which may or may not be too scary for little kids.

‘A Million Ways to Die in the West’ (May 30)

Seth McFarlane follows up “Ted’’ with his raunchy update to “Blazing Saddles.’’

‘Edge of Tomorrow’ (June 6)

Tom Cruise is back in action with what amounts to “Groundhog Day’’ with killer extraterrestrials — whom he battles to the death (his) on an endless loop.

’22 Jump Street’ (June 13)

Cops Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill go undercover in college in this sequel with Ice Cube.

‘Transformers: Edge of Extinction’ (June 27)

Can subtracting Shia LeBeouf make this fourth installment of this phenomenally popular franchise any less dumb?

‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ (July 11)

Sequel to the reboot. No James Franco this time, but it’s got Andy Serkis and Gary Oldman.

‘Jupiter Ascending’ (July 18)

Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis in a new sci-fi epic from the Wachowski siblings, which hopefully will turn out more like “The Matrix’’ and less like “Cloud Atlas.’’

‘Hercules’ (July 25)

Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson follows in the sandals of the hapless Kellan Lutz in this year’s second attempt to turn the demigod into a franchise.

‘Into the Storm’ (Aug. 8)

Disaster movies get a “Storm Chasers’’ twist as a group of Midwest high schoolers decide to get up close and personal with a tornado.

‘Sin City: A Dame to Kill For’ (Aug. 22)

Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Mickey Rourke and Bruce Willis return as Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez co-direct a sequel based on Miller’s graphic novel.
