Syfy orders zombie drama to rival ‘Walking Dead’

Syfy is looking to the undead for its next TV hit.

Following the mega-success of “The Walking Dead,” the network has ordered its own zombie show, “Z Nation,” to premiere this fall.

The 13-episode action-horror series depicts the struggle to save humanity three years after a zombie virus has gutted the country, as a ragtag band of heroes must transport the only known survivor of the plague from New York to California with humankind’s survival at stake.

“Z Nation” hails from production company The Asylum — the producers of Syfy’s campy B-movie hit “Sharknado” — and executive producer/showrunner Karl Schaefer (“Eureka”).
