‘Game of Thrones’ renewed for two more seasons

HBO has renewed “Game of Thrones” for a fifth and sixth season after Sunday’s Season 4 premiere snared nearly 7 million viewers.

“ ‘Game of Thrones’ is a phenomenon like no other,” HBO programing president Michael Lombardo said in a statement.

Sunday’s Season 4 premiere was HBO’s most-watched show since the finale of “The Sopranos” averaged nearly 12 million viewers in 2007.

Sunday’s premiere was up a whopping 52 percent over last season’s premiere and was up 23 percent over the Season 3 finale.

“GoT” added another 1.6 million viewers in its 11 p.m. repeat Sunday, bringing its total audience to 8.2 million viewers.
