The Knicks are mulling whether to use one of their two roster spots on power forward Ike Diogu, who impressed the team during training camp but was released, according to an NBA source.
The Knicks will have two open spots when Metta World Peace and Beno Udrih’s buyouts become official Monday. Diogu is in the D-League with Bakersfield, averaging 16.2 points and 8.2 rebounds. He showed rebounding ability and a mid-range jumper for the Knicks during the preseason.
The Knicks could decide to sign a younger D-League player to develop for the future, but a veteran of intrigue is Danny Granger, should he be waived by the 76ers.
The Knicks also will have interest in proven veterans who were recently bought out, including Earl Clark, Ben Gordon and Antawn Jamison. Glen Davis has agreed to sign with the Clippers.
Because of the luxury-tax penalties and the fact owner James Dolan is already paying 17 players this season, the Knicks may only sign one player.
