John Daly makes 12 on one hole, 90 for the round

PALM HARBOR, Fla. — John Daly took a 12 on the 16th hole at Innisbrook and left the Valspar Championship on Friday with the highest round of his PGA Tour career.

He missed a 4-foot putt on the final hole for a 90.

Daly hit his tee shot into the water on the 16th hole. He twice tried to go for the green and hit into the water, and then played it safe out to the left. Daly said he shanked a 7-iron, duffed a chip and took 11 shots to get on the green.

The two-time major champion said it was “a good 12.”

Daly says he is more concerned with having the yips. He says it started last week at Puerto Rico. He took 70 putts over two days at Innisbrook.
