MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota Timberwolves forward Dante Cunningham has been charged with a felony count of domestic assault by strangulation.
The criminal complaint filed in Hennepin County District Court says his girlfriend told police they had been having relationship problems and got into an argument early Thursday at his suburban Minneapolis home.
She told police he grabbed her around the neck and slammed her against the wall, choking for 15 to 20 seconds during which she could not breathe. The complaint says he dropped her, and she called 911.
The 26-year-old Cunningham remained in jail Friday evening with bail set at $40,000. He could not be reached for comment as inmates can’t take calls. He was unable to join the Timberwolves when they left Thursday on a two-game road trip to Florida.
