Action-packed ‘Raid 2’ is a jaw-dropping thrill ride

In this epically scaled and well-acted sequel to Welsh-born director Gareth Evans’ 2011 worldwide action hit from Indonesia, supercop Rama (Iko Uwais) goes undercover to infiltrate Jakarta’s underworld and protect his own family.

In classic Hollywood fashion, Rama is thrown in jail where he befriends a hot-headed crime family scion (Arifin Putra) whose grateful dad (Tio Pakusadewo) gives Rama a job as an enforcer when he’s released.

Over the course of 2 ¹/₂ hours crammed with jaw-dropping martial-arts stunts photographed with great visual panache, Rama finds himself in the middle of a gang war that makes the one in “The Godfather’’ seem mild in comparison. Those with a high tolerance for violence and gore — at one point, Rama battles assassins labeled “Baseball Bat Man’’ and “Hammer Girl’’ simultaneously — will eat up “The Raid 2.’’
