Jets awarded 4 extra picks, Giants get 1

The Jets were awarded the maximum of four compensatory draft picks and the Giants received one, the league announced Monday.

The Jets now have 12 picks in May’s Draft. They received an additional fourth-rounder and three more sixth-rounders, giving them three fourth-round picks and four picks in the sixth round.

The Giants received an additional fifth-round pick (174 overall), giving them a total of seven picks. They have two fifth-round picks and one in every other round except the seventh.

The league uses a formula to reward compensatory picks to teams for free agents lost in the prior season as compared to those added.

The Jets were given picks (134 overall, 209, 210 and 213) after losing Yeremiah Bell, Mike DeVito, Shonn Greene, Dustin Keller, LaRon Landry and Matt Slauson in 2013 while only adding Antwan Barnes and Mike Goodson.

The Giants lost Martellus Bennett, Chase Blackburn, Domenik Hixon and Osi Umenyiora while adding Josh Brown, Brandon Myers and Ryan Mundy.

Compensatory picks cannot be traded.
