Ex-Jet Douglas eyes plea in girlfriend ‘attack’

HARTFORD, Conn. — Former Jets player and ESPN analyst Hugh Douglas will plead no contest to a misdemeanor to end a case that accused him of assaulting a girlfriend at a Hartford hotel, his lawyer said Friday.

Douglas, 42, of Bryn Mawr, Pa., had faced felony assault and strangulation charges but is expected to plead no contest to breach of peace Monday in Hartford and avoid prison, attorney Corey Brinson said.

Brinson said a judge will decide whether to accept the plea deal.

Douglas played for the Jets, Eagles and Jaguars from 1995 to 2004. He was an ESPN analyst from 2011 to last year.

His girlfriend, who was not identified, told cops on Sept. 22 that he had grabbed her neck and slammed her to walls, a police report says. He claimed it was “rough sex,” the report says.

Brinson has denied her accusations. Douglas is free on $50,000 bail.
