CBS renewals mean it’s starting to look a lot like fall

Good news for CBS fans — your favorite show will likely be back next season (unless you’re a Robin Williams fan).

The network on Thursday renewed the bulk of its prime-time lineup — 18 series — bringing its total number of returning shows to 20 for the 2014-15 season.

Included on the list are nine dramas: “NCIS” and “NCIS: Los Angeles” (a third spinoff is in the works), “Person of Interest,” “CSI” (which is also prepping a spinoff), “Hawaii Five-0,” “Blue Bloods,” “Criminal Minds,” “Elementary” and “The Good Wife.”

Following Wednesday’s three-year renewal for “The Big Bang Theory,” CBS has picked up five more comedies — “2 Broke Girls,” “Mike & Molly,” “Two and a Half Men” and first-year sitcoms “The Millers” and “Mom.”

Reality series “Undercover Boss” and “The Amazing Race” will also return (“Survivor” was previously renewed) as well as Sunday night newsmagazine “60 Minutes.”

Not on the renewal list: “The Mentalist,” under-performing freshman dramas “Hostages” and “Intelligence” and the Robin Williams comedy “The Crazy Ones” — whose audience has declined in its move to 9:30 p.m. on Thursdays. While it’s not a final nail in the coffin yet, these shows’ fates seem all but sealed as CBS clears room on its schedule for new shows.

The mass pickup by CBS adds to the series renewals at other networks that have been trickling out piecemeal over the past few months.

Fox has also committed to more seasons of several series, including first-year drama “Sleepy Hollow,” a 10th season of “Bones,” “The Following,” and the sixth and final season of “Glee,” as well as a trio of comedies — “New Girl,” “The Mindy Project” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.”

NBC renewed its freshman hit “The Blacklist” back in December, guaranteeing the James Spader drama another 22 episodes. The network has also said it will bring back Amy Poehler’s critically adored comedy “Parks and Recreation” for a seventh season, despite low viewership.

At least five dramas will be back on The CW — the younger-skewing network last month picked up “Arrow,” “The Vampire Diaries” and its spinoff “The Originals,” a 10th season of “Supernatural” and “Reign” for 2014-15.

Though ABC has yet to officially renew any of its lineup, the other renewals so far offer a pretty clear picture of prime-time come this fall. And that’s not even including the many new shows already ordered straight to series, including a pair of NBC comedies starring “The Office” alums Craig Robinson and Ellie Kemper.

CBS likewise has Vince Gilligan’s next drama “Battle Creek” on the schedule while Fox has committed to the Rainn Wilson detective drama “Backstrom,” Batman prequel “Gotham” and comedy “Mulaney” starring “Saturday Night Live” alum John Mulaney.
