Three Arroyo aides charged over forged election petitions

Three former campaign workers for Bronx Councilwoman Maria del Carmen Arroyo were charged Wednesday with forgery for submitting election petitions with fake names — including of celebrities such as Derek Jeter.

Nearly 100 signatures were discovered to be fake on the councilwoman’s nominating petitions for the September 2013 Democratic primary, according to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office.

Among the names forged were those were those of Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, sports announcer Joe Buck, New York Giants defensive tackle Rocky Bernard and actress Kate Moss.

Elbin Lopez, 49, Betty Julien, 47, and Luis Vargas, 45, were arrested Tuesday night and were released on their own recognizance, police said.
