Christie’s campaign manager: I’m a federal Bridgegate target

Gov. Christie’s two-time campaign manager says he’s a target of a federal “Bridgegate” investigation and is using that to fight subpoenas by state lawmakers also looking into the infamous George Washington Bridge traffic jam.

In court papers filed Monday, attorneys for Bill Stepien insist giving lawmakers e-mails or other materials related to the lane closures would violate his right against self-incrimination.

Last month, a Legislative Committee investigating the lane closures asked a court to order Stepien and Bridget Anne Kelly, Christie’s former deputy chief of staff, to comply with subpoenas, but both are fighting them.

Christie cut all ties with Stepien and fired Kelly over her e-mail saying it’s “time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee.”
